what would they say
My Boy Tone just lost his mother and my boy Smoove just lost his father. I couldn?t make Tone?s mom?s funeral, since it was in Oakland, but I checked on him as well as gave him his space. But I was able to make my boy Smoove?s father?s funeral.Just looking at him comfort his mother and his children and his sisters made me understand why he was my boy. He was real and compassionate and creative. I feel that I would have seen and felt the same way if I was at Tone?s mom?s funeral.I also started to wonder, as [...]
Too many funeral books
The Penn. Express-Times writes about "Final Crisis Requiem", and I'm not comfortable with how they seem to be putting emphasis on a character dying, especially in these days when death has been way overdone while simultaneously rendered meaningless. They say: Finally, two months after his death in "Final Crisis No. 1" Martian Manhunter, J'onn J'onzz, gets a memorial in "Final Crisis Requiem." [...]
Thai funeral in our village
You'll often see funerals in Thailand. It's not like England where people hide away their grief, have a quick service, maybe a little party at someone's house after the funeral..no, here a funeral is a week long wake, with half the street taken up outside the family house. There was a wake in our village last month, and my mother took a walk down the street one day while I was at work. These are her words and photos.I am sure that each family arranges things differently in Thailand, just as we do here in [...]
Death By Blogging?
Two weeks ago in North Lauderdale, Fla., funeral services were held for Russell Shaw, a prolific blogger on technology subjects who died at 60 of a heart attack. In December, another tech blogger, Marc Orchant, died at 50 of a massive coronary. A third, Om Malik, 41, survived a heart attack in December. Other bloggers complain [...]
Granny Gums' 91st Birthday
Today would have been my granny's 91st birthday. I'd like to think she's in heaven celebrating with her husband, three sons, two daughters, and two grandsons who preceded her in death. What a party that would be! My grandfather cooked and baked from scratch, my uncle was an Army cook, and both of my aunts were versed in the kitchen. I imagine that there would be lots of food and reminiscing as they look down upon us. I scanned the picture on the right when I was in Houston for Granny's wake and funeral in [...]
Theme Night
It seemed like a theme night with death on each show but at least Booth wasn't dead dead like they made it seem at first. I didn't like that one little bit. Hell I was thinking while I was watching that I wouldn't be watching a season four if David wasn't on it but he was at his funeral so all is good on that front. Yes I'm weird but if you read my blog you've already figured that out since it isn't too hard to do. Yes the weird girl has struck again on the writing front since I started and am working on it [...]
After.Life (2009)
After.Life (2009) Dir. by Agnieszka Wojtowicz-VoslooA young woman caught between life and death... and a funeral director who appears to have the gift of transitioning the dead, but might just be intent on burying her alive. Wojtowicz-Vosloo's feature film debut is not something worth spending a great deal on. I had high hopes for After.Life, but it didn't exactly live up to my expectations. There were spots of the film that showed promise, but most of it otherwise felt like a softcore porn with Christina [...]

Notes on the death of an idol...
I find the thought that someone like Norman Mailer must die like any normal person disconcerting and immensely weird.Suddenly, in spite of all the controversy, subversion, famous infamy, abrasion and undeniable brilliance, he becomes just another man. And that does not feel right. There is a handful of people about whom I feel this way, most of them wayward subversives and social ?denigrateurs? such as Norman Mailer, Hunter Thompson, Martin Amis (yes, I cannot help but like this writer in spite of his [...]
