When is the best time to add compost to your garden?

En Garden Desk Published 13 days and 17 hours and 10 minutes ago.

I don't think I've ever really thought about whether there are good or bad times of the year to add compost to the garden - until this past weekend. I have always focused on how great fresh "home-made" compost is for an organic garden and just added it whenever it became available. This weekend I was delighted to find that I had a lot of compost ready so I began top dressing some of my garden beds. Much of my pile behind the garden had fully broken down and the batch of organic matter that I put in my new [...]

I wanna go home

En PARISUKAT.COM Published 14 days and 2 hours and 13 minutes ago.

Life is like a garden filled with green grasses, tall and small trees, flowers, birds and butterflies. A great sight. For me, there’s nothing more beautiful than natural garden and garden decor. My mom is fond of gardening. People call her the lady with the green thumb, because for some reason, she can grow [...]

En Lawns Hub Published 10 days and 5 hours and 14 minutes ago.

Outdoor lawn and garden furniture is another of those areas which have burgeoned into a massively-popular and amazingly diverse area with the modern advent of a culture far more invested in the outdoors, their landscaping and the peaceful and relaxing benefits of home and garden ownership. There are nearly as many firms specializing in [...]

Garden Journal: Peas, Potatoes, Lettuce, Tomatoes

En Garden Desk Published 14 days and 12 hours and 29 minutes ago.

I can't believe it has taken me a whole week to post this. Last Saturday, when we got home from vacation I took inventory on the garden happenings and wrote it all in my paper journal like the old days. I really do like paper records better than digital ones, but journaling on the computer allows one to post photos much easier. So I think I will be journaling here at Garden Desk. These posts will be a bit different than my others because it will just be a list of how things are going. It may be more for me [...]

there’s nothing like having my mom at home

En PARISUKAT.COM Published 26 days and 13 hours and 47 minutes ago.

With my mom at home now, everything is just so different. Home feels so much like home again. Everything feels so alive, even the flowers in the garden looks different when she’s the one taking care of them. My mom is good at house keeping and management, a typical home manager mom who’s at the [...]

Happy Garden, Sad Garden

En Culinary Colorado Published 19 days and 23 hours and 58 minutes ago.

Some home gardens produce great yields (not mine); others fizzle (mine) I don't have a naturally green thumb, but I do try. I feed. I water. I think I encourage plants -- both outdoor and indoor -- to grow, or at least hang in and show their appreciation. This year, we decided to put in a south-facing raised bed snugged up against the house, and we put in some vegetables. Lettuce, tomatoes, herbs. Nothing exotic.
