Lightning unveil their new jersey
From Tampa Bay.com: The Lightning unveiled its new logo and jerseys today at the team's annual IceFest, choosing to modernize the long-standing existing logo instead of opting for an entirely different look. The new Lightning logo looks very similar to the old one, only with a more vibrant bolt, the "Tampa Bay" script more readable and the removal of the repetitive word "Lightning" from the logo. Several Lightning players, including All-Star Martin St. Louis, walked down the red carpet to a stage the West [...]
Tips to help you catch
Weather is an important part of fishing. In the Tampa Bay area and others, tides are affected by wind strength and direction. It?s not enough to just know when predicted high and low tides are. Winds with a southerly component will hold water up higher and longer inside coastal bays, scattering fish and pushing them well into mangrove bushes beyond reach. Our mid-week weather pattern made for strong northeast winds. The predicted low tides were close to mean low, but in Tampa Bay, the strong Nor?easter kept [...]
Fishing for Trout?
Some good action on trout in lower Tampa Bay on deep grass and hard bottom was experienced by anglers. At the same time, anglers were jumping some late season tarpon near the Skyway Bridge that weighed from 30-to 100-pounds. Some patches of hard bottom in 10-feet of water, are good places.
Pet Gifts
"Of the many great gifts to give loved ones during this holiday season, a surprise pet should not be on anyone’s list. “The adoption and pet supply gift certificates are great for someone who has been thinking about adopting a pet,” said Beth Lockwood, executive director of SPCA Tampa Bay. “Pet ownership is a big responsibility and should be a personal choice. We feel pet owners should be able [...]
Nordic Walking Picks Up in the Tampa Bay Area
Here in Colorado's Front Range, it started snowing a couple of weeks ago and has snowed a few inches several times since then. We had a white Christmas, and with sub-freezing temperatures, not much has melted. City sidewalks and recreation paths are, for the most part, clear, so bundling up and going for a Nordic Walk is no problem. On well-packed snow-covered trails, Nordic Walking remains an option, with snowshoeing the activity of choice where the snow is deeper and softer. Floridians have no such [...]
Canucks-Demitra deal may almost be done / Recchi signs with Tampa Bay
According to the almighty guessing Eklund, a deal between the Canucks and Pavol Demitra is close to being done. That doesn't overly excite me. But it could be worse. It could be Jan Bulis. More on this as it develops. I really don't get why more teams don't rush to sign The Wrecking Ball Mark Recchi. The guy still has speed and offensive talent, plus he has Cup experience. He scored 14 goals and 48 points in 72 games last season with the Thrashers. I just don't get why Gillis would pass on this guy. He's [...]
Fishing for Redfish?
Redfish continue to be on the scene. Good numbers of fish have been on the outer bars this week in Tampa Bay from Christmas Pass north to the power plant in St. Pete. Weedon Island fishing has been good, as has Big Island, to the north. Reds have been active, and with the new moon earlier in the week, snook fishing took an upward spike. Good action around mangrove points, oyster bars just inside passes and around boat docks was reported by anglers from Sarasota and Bradenton. A little slower bite was [...]
Flyers trade rights to Vaclav Prospal back to the Lightning
Lightning strikes twice. The Flyers have traded the rights to scoring enigma Vaclav Prospal to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for the 7th overall pick in the upcoming 2008 NHL Entry Draft. "Vinny really didn't express much of an interest in coming back and playing for us next season," said General Manager Holmgren in making the announcement. "His heart is elsewhere." Since the Flyers acquired him at the trade deadline, Prospal scored 4 goals and 18 points in 18 regular season games for the Flyers, and [...]
Chicks Don't Dig the Strikeout...
...And neither does Dallas News columnist Evan Grant:Forget the club record. The Rangers are on the way to becoming one of the most frequently whiffed teams in AL history. With their second strikeout this weekend, the Rangers will have the third highest strikeout total in league history, behind Tampa Bay (1,291 this season and still going) and Detroit (1,268 in 1996). Both were 90-loss teams. The moral: fail to make contact, and losses will mount.No. That is not the moral. There is no moral, except for the [...]
